Dann Paquette, and the others behind Pretty things beer and Ale Project are gypsys of sort – they no brewing home, but instead rent breweries and do what they do, which is produce original, unique microbrews. Dann Paquette, founder of the company, has been brewing beer from last 18 years in England and Europe. He and his wife Martha draw the outstanding artwork for the bottles, formulate the beer, also think up for interesting name such as the Jack D'OR, Baby tree, ST Botolph's Town, Babayaga and American Darling.

You can find Pretty Things in Cambridge and Boston Massachusetts as well as NYC and Philadelphia. Look out for these guys – big things to come. Stay pretty and drink real beer with Pretty Things!

Wachusett Brewing Company

Wachusett Brewery founders Ned, Kevin and Quinny developed a significant appreciation for beer while attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Adventures in biking, canning, and hiking that led the trio to the northern New England states allowed them to visit some of the first operating craft breweries. Armed with a "we can do this" attitude the three cast off from their careers in engineering and biology to found the Wachusett Brewing Co. in 1993.

Wachusett Country Ale was introduced to beer fans of Massachusetts the next year after lots of experimenting to get the formula just right. When Wachusett opened, the three designed and built most of the equipment; did the brewing and filling, selling and delivering, and everything else that a small startup brewery needed.Ned, Kevin and Quinny are now backed by some of the most passionate and capable co-workers in the industry. Wachusett Ales continue to be hand crafted with the finest ingredients available, bottled and kegged in our Westminster facility. The three have never strayed from their plan to brew and sell the freshest, highest quality beers possible.

Common Ground – Allston’s little known beer bar

When you think about beer in Allston, you think Sunset, Big City, and Deep Ellum. Don’t get me wrong, these are all great bars with outstanding tap lists. If there are any complaints about those bars, it is that they are overcrowded. Sunset is one of Boston’s most famous beer destinations. Big City is their sister bar, and more of a pool hall than anything else (that happens to have over 80 beers on tap), and is filled to the brim with BU and BC students. Deep Ellum, well, I can’t say to many negative things about that place. It’s one of my favorite spots in the city, but it is small, and is gaining a reputation. Those unfamiliar with the Ellum may also feel slightly intimidated by it’s hardcore beer enthusiast click.

That leaves us with The Common Ground. Harvard Ave’s hidden beer gem. You’ll find about a dozen taps such as Smuttynose, Dogfish, Avery and Victory, plus many more in bottles, which are rotated often. The beer menu is very descriptive and helpful, plus the food is excellent.

Make a stop here before heading to Sunset. You’ll be glad you did – you may just return across the street after you check out the line.
