As an Irish American (3rd Generation but who cares) I love a good Irish pub. Boston, of coarse, has quite a few. Here is a quick and dirty list of 5 pubs that you must check out.

Corrib Pub - 396 Market St, Brighton Center
I love the Corrib for many reasons, but mostly for their Irish Breakfast. It’s contains about 5 lbs of pork, served smoking hot, and will leave you full for a week. Not the highest quality of food, but its tasty as hell and come on, it’s Irish Breakfast not Brunch in the South End. The Corrib’s also got a great, long bar with very friendly staff. |

Farragut House - 149 P St, South Boston
Another nod for it’s food, this pub is a legit Southie Irish watering hole. The food is actually quite good, Irish pub or not. Great place to bring the folks, grab a beer after work, or meet up with a buddy. Very friendly bartenders, and an unusually talkative and welcoming group of regulars. This is a great Southie East Side pub that truly cannot be missed. |

Green Briar - 304 Washington St, Brighton Center
The draw of this pub tends to be the patio, which is quite nice. Host to many after work meet-ups and Boston College night outs, the Green Briar is a truly authentic Irish Pub located in the heart of Brighton Center. The place is a huge two-sided bar and restaurant with plenty of seating and great eats (huge fan of the shepherds pie). |

Matt Murphys - 14 Harvard St, Brookline
As the spot of one of my first dates with my girlfriend (great date spot by the way), I’m a little bias when it comes to Matt Murphys in Brookline. As a very small and crowded hot spot, Matt Murphys is not for everyone. I say this because the bar has no barstools, and the few tables are often shared by different groups. Nonetheless, this is a very very cool place. Live music a few times a week, great beer selection, trivia that is difficult as shit, and really good food (but a bit pricey). Not a typical Irish Pub, but the diversity of the crowd and the unique atmosphere adds this place to the list. |
 |
Porter Belly’s - 338 Washington St, Brighton Center
Can’t say enough about this place. It’s very small, somewhat dark (OK, so it always looks closed from the outside looking in), and the draws a rough crowd. It is exactly what you’d expect a small Irish pub in Boston to be. Burgers are great as well, and go great with a pint of Murphys’. |
